CALGARY STAMPEDE

WESTERN SHOWCASE

So excited to be part of the Calgary Stampede 2017: Western Showcase, Stir’ Up and Artist In-Site.

A sincere thank you to all the folks who offer so much encouragement and support every other day of the year. A special dedication to Ayesha and Derrick Clough who have helped make my dreams come true and who go above and beyond to support the Arts and Artists.

In case you missed it, my work in the show can still be seen at:

Spotlight Exhibition

Exhibition of ACAD ConEd Students

What a fun opening! Thank you so much Alberta College of Art and Design for hosting a celebration of work from Continuing Education.

A sincere thank you to Katherine Ylitalo, Spotlight Exhibition Juror, for your time and thoughtful words. “What an exuberant concoction! All the under-the-sea elements appear to be wonderfully made and assembled into a mer-milliner’s dream.”

I will forever be a student, there are so many talented people in our city to learn from. And the latest class that I took from Jennifer Park @naturalicon not only loaded me up on skills and techniques she changed the way I thought about my own work and process.

I dedicate this piece to Carol Huggler whose cast lotus piece was the seed for this creation. So lovely to have met you in class, you inspire me.

So basically, if you haven’t taken a Con Ed class – you really, really should.

RECLAIMED

Airdrie Public Library

airdrie | 2016

A tandem showing with the talented Ken Vickets A.K.A. Chickenbone Charlie and his red neck guitars.

Every piece is unique, containing layers of hidden secrets, sentimental fragments, buried desires or dreams, all details that are discovered over time. Time and memory are significant for Lia as she has become increasingly concerned with forgetting or losing things of importance. Like Lia, Ken utilizes recycled materials along with wood to create his pieces. He also had a career in design along with years of experience in wood working. Unlike Lia who prefers to work intuitively and organically, his work is highly detailed and life-like. Both artists agree that working with material that is commonplace is exciting in that it requires a new perspective and creative way of thinking. They share the extraordinary through the use of ordinary materials.
