Bridal Expo 2017

Artisan Market

Making hats began as a fun sideline to my Art and Design business but I have had so many orders this year that I thought maybe its time I start building this portion of my portfolio a bit more seriously. I am proud to announce that I will have my first market booth in the Artisan Market at Bridal Expo YYC 2017 and to be in such good company with fellow wedding artisans!

Packwood Grand 2017

Always a blast at the Packwood Bash! Ran into a few of my hats while we were there and still trying to track down photos of a few more. Can’t wait until all the photos are released!

A little fashion plate dished up prior to Packwood Grand.

Well at least I’m better at making hats than I am at speaking on camera.  Thank you for the feature Camilla and Mirissa!

The Devil is in the Details

Creating your own Fascinator

I had the pleasure of doing a blog interview with Anastaiia for Packwood Grand. As I am sure you know I love DIY so I shared a few tips for the ladies that want to add their own signature spin on their look for the races.

Spotlight Exhibit

Exhibition for Continuing Education Students

What a fun opening! Thank you so much Alberta College of Art and Design for hosting a celebration of work from Continuing Education.

A sincere thank you to Katherine Ylitalo, Spotlight Exhibition Juror, for your time and thoughtful words. “What an exuberant concoction! All the under-the-sea elements appear to be wonderfully made and assembled into a mer-milliner’s dream.”

What a fun opening! Thank you so much Alberta College of Art and Design for hosting a celebration of work from Continuing Education.

I will forever be a student, there are so many talented people in our city to learn from. And the latest class that I took from Jennifer Park @naturalicon not only loaded me up on skills and techniques she changed the way I thought about my own work and process.

I dedicate this piece to Carol Huggler whose cast lotus piece was the seed for this creation. So lovely to have met you in class, you inspire me.

So basically, if you haven’t taken a Con Ed class – you really, really should.

RECLAIMED

Airdrie Public Library

airdrie | 2016

A tandem showing with the talented Ken Vickets A.K.A. Chickenbone Charlie and his red neck guitars.

Every piece is unique, containing layers of hidden secrets, sentimental fragments, buried desires or dreams, all details that are discovered over time. Time and memory are significant for Lia as she has become increasingly concerned with forgetting or losing things of importance. Like Lia, Ken utilizes recycled materials along with wood to create his pieces. He also had a career in design along with years of experience in wood working. Unlike Lia who prefers to work intuitively and organically, his work is highly detailed and life-like. Both artists agree that working with material that is commonplace is exciting in that it requires a new perspective and creative way of thinking. They share the extraordinary through the use of ordinary materials.
