When I first read about of the art of Kintsugi, I was deeply moved. When a cherished item breaks, rather then restoring it seamlessly as it once was, the damage becomes part of the aesthetic and its history. Myself, my work, my life… it may never be perfectly polished but I’m trying to be more accepting of how things are, rather than wishing life away. Originally, the wings of this piece were intact but my son bumped it off the easel while racing his car in my studio. Damaged does not mean discarded around here, it’s just part of the charm.
